It’s interesting times we live in these days. Many of us are unable to work, even though we want to and we’re confined to our homes, unable to enjoy all the blessings this country has to offer. Under these unusual circumstances, it could be easy to become stressed, anxious and even depressed…. not to mention irritable. If you’re struggling, I have 4 words that can help improve things for you.
Have you ever noticed how some people can handle situations like this better than others. Some people manage to keep a smile on their face and a cheerfulness in their manner despite difficult times. Did you ever wonder how they manage to do that? Chances are, they use a technique that Hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners regularly use as a part of their practice. It’s a technique called “reframing”.
Reframing is a process of changing the way situations, events, ideas, and/or emotions are experienced. The easiest way to demonstrate reframing is to show you a 10 ounce glass of water with 5 ounces of water in it. Is it half full or is it half empty? The answer depends upon how you frame it.
Reframing an experience can be quite simple… or it can be challenging. Some people tend to hold on to their suffering while others are only too glad to let it go. I’ll bet you know both kinds yourself. At times like this… where things seem to be all bad and the good is harder to find, here’s 4 words you can use to help you reframe your experience.
It Could Be Worse
Just spend a moment or two with that idea, Let your imagination consider all the things that aren’t wrong that could be, then begin to ask yourself where the blessings are in your situation. You just might be surprised at how your mood can change.
Here’s another single word you can change to help reframe your COVID19 experience. Instead of thinking “I have to stay home… start saying “I get to stay home”. It’s one word but you might be surprised at how it changes your mood. Your unconscious mind hears those two words very differently.
Every day is a blessing… so instead of hunting Easter eggs today, take a moment and hunt for the blessings in these interesting times. Go ahead.. give it a try… you just might find something nice.
